Federal and State agencies maintain databases of areas where rare, threatened, and endangered species are known or thought to exist or where there may be suitable habitat to support them. Co-founded and assembled a consortium of over 60 researchers, educators, and policymakers from 21 different institutions to conduct cutting-edge research into the benefits and science of green roofs in New York City. The GRRA explores and advocates for political, regulatory, and financial incentives to incorporate green roofs into new building design and existing structure retrofits

Provided Environmental Impact Statement, a woodland management plan inventory, and wetlands delineations for several proposed residential real estate developments in Howell Township.

Brookville Manor, Barnegat, New Jersey

This real estate development project required approvals from the NJDEP as well municipal approvals, and a Coastal Areas Facility Review Act (CAFRA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Performed a wetlands delineation, and acquired all necessary permits, and prepared the CAFRA EIS to allow this project to proceed.

Meadowlands Interagency Regulatory Committee, New Jersey

Co-founded and served as an officer for an interagency committee created to guide aspects of the project that will impact regulated wetlands and Waters of the US within the New Jersey Meadowlands. This committee guides proposed plans from the conceptual stage through to compensatory mitigation if required.

Our team will obtain approvals at all levels for a project as local, State, and Federal regulations and ordinances require approvals for unavoidable impacts to an expanding array of environmental media. These often conflicting requirements between overlapping jurisdictions restrictions can change between project inception and the need for regulatory approvals.

Golden Oaks, Bergen County, New Jersey

Performed a wetland delineation and data collection on the subject property and obtained all necessary approvals from NJDEP to allow the construction of this residential development project. This included coordination with NJDEP regulators and USFWS biologists to compromise regarding protecting the federally endangered Indiana bat (Myotis sodalist).

Village Center at Cornwall, Orange County, New York

Prepared a Draft EIS under the State Environmental Quality and Review Act (SEQRA) and provided expert testimony before the Town of Cornwall Planning Board to construct this mixed-use development project in the Town of Cornwall, in Orange County, New York.

Greene Valley Estates, West Milford, New Jersey

Prepared a Draft EIS under the State Environmental Quality and Review Act (SEQRA) and provided expert testimony before the Town of Cornwall Planning Board to construct this mixed-use development project in the Town of Cornwall, in Orange County, New York.

Successful Appeal of Permit Denial, New York

Successfully appealed the denial of Statewide General Permit No. 6, allowing a real estate development in Denville, NJ. The appeal resulted in amendments to the USEPA’s Priority Wetlands List for New Jersey and subsequent changes in the NJDEP’s application of its rules regarding Statewide General Permit No. 6.

Confusing and evolving environmental rules and overlapping jurisdictions can sometimes result in regulatory agencies initiating enforcement actions in attempts to resolve violations. However, EcoLogic Solutions can successfully negotiate with regulators to agree on mitigation measures to comply with projects.

Russo Development Company, New Jersey

Worked with the NJDEP, USACE, and USEPA to resolve an intertidal wetland enforcement case in Bergen County, New Jersey. Acquired and restored 16.3 acres of intertidal wetlands to compensate for unauthorized wetland fill associated with commercial development.

Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act Violation, New Jersey

Resolved an enforcement case brought by NJDEP against a residential property owner in Randolph, NJ. Obtained Transition Area Width Reduction, Averaging Plan and Waivers; and Statewide General Permits to bring the project into compliance.

Before local approvals are granted for real estate development projects, expert testimony before local planning boards and environmental commissions is often required. Projects can also require expert testimony before state and federal agencies or in federal or local tax courts. EcoLogic Solutions coordinates with the project team to assure testimony is well prepared to support the client’s objectives and to anticipate and counter cross-examinations.
