Green Roofs Researchers Alliance (GRRA)

EcoLogic Solutions identifies client needs and knowledge gaps. Its team members provide leadership to connected researchers, educators, and policymakers who offer cutting-edge solutions for green infrastructure and other sustainability measures.

Green roofs provide many social, economic, and environmental benefits for individuals, communities, and cities. Unfortunately, research, advocacy, and outreach have not historically been coordinated. Working with the NYC Audubon, we assembled a cohort of academics, engineers, non-profit agencies, and industry leaders conducting cutting-edge research into the practical aspects of installing and maintaining green roofs and quantifying their tangible benefits to the property owners, the environment, and surrounding communities. In 2017, the cohort filed for a 501(c)(3) and developed into the Green Roof Researchers Alliance (GRRA).

The GRRA is a consortium of over 60 researchers, educators, and policymakers from 21 different institutions studying green roofs and promoting their expansion. Through mapping, environmental data collection, and analysis of biological monitoring, the GRRA has created a centralized hub of NYC green roof information and has since expanded to become an international source of research and information dissemination. With an annual conference at the Javits Center, the GRRA has since grown to become a global research and information dissemination source.
